COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides an overview of the importance of international business and trade in the global economy and explores the factors that influence success in international markets. Students will learn about the techniques and strategies associated with marketing, distribution, and managing international business effectively. This course prepares students for postsecondary programs in business, including international business, marketing, and management.

Outline of Course Content

Unit 1:  Business, Trade, and Economy

In this unit, you will learn about the fundamentals of international business, trade, and especially how Canada is both affected by and attracts international businesses and investments. You will identify the various barriers and incentives to trade, as well as be introduced to the basic terminology of business.

 

Unit 2: Globalization, Technology and Trends

In this unit, students will explore the impact that technology has had on international business. Particularly with respect to how it has accelerated the expansion and change of international markets. You will identify multinational corporations and explore the impact that currency has on international business.

 

Unit 3: Canada, Culture and Marketing

This unit concentrates on the challenges encountered by multinational companies upon looking to expand into international markets. You will also learn about Canada’s role in international business, and how Canada’s culture compares and contrasts with other negotiation styles.

 

Unit 4: Ethics, Market and Labour

In this unit, you will explore and discuss the effects of globalization on the labour market, and on business ethics such as social responsibility and employee retention and treatment. You will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of multinational corporations, and lastly, you will consider business strategies when dealing with people from other cultures.

 

Final Exam        

Final Mark will be determined following percentages:

70% Determined by the evaluations conducted throughout the duration of the course:

Products – Assignments, Essays, Journals, Portfolio

Observations – Presentations

Conversations – Conference with the Teacher

30% Final examination of the students and/or a Culmination Assignment
