COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course emphasizes knowledge and skills related to the craft of writing. Students will analyse models of effective writing; use a workshop approach to produce a range of works; identify and use techniques required for specialized forms of writing; and identify effective ways to improve the quality of their writing. They will also complete a major paper as part of a creative or analytical independent study project and investigate opportunities for publication and for writing careers.

 

Outline of Course Content                                                       

Unit 1:  Investigating Writing

In this unit, students delve into the intricate world of writing, exploring various models and understanding the art and craft behind the words. They will analyze elements of form and style, and gain insights into the perspectives of writers from diverse backgrounds.

 

Unit 2:  Writing Process

This unit focuses on the practical aspects of writing. Students will explore and experiment with various ideas, forms, and styles. They will learn the importance of drafting, revising, editing, and collaborative writing.

 

Unit 3: Plan-Writing Non-fiction

In this unit, students will embark on a journey through the diverse landscape of non-fiction writing. From crafting engaging narratives to conveying persuasive arguments and exploring the intricacies of journalism, students will develop a deeper understanding of various non-fiction genres and their roles in communication.

 

Unit 4: Applications of Writing

In this unit, students will be introduced to specialized forms of writing, from TV and film scripts to songs and graphic storytelling. They will also explore potential career paths in writing and compile a portfolio showcasing their growth and skills.

 

Culminating Activity

Final Mark will be determined following percentages:

70%      Determined by the evaluations conducted throughout the duration of the course:
